Student Parking Updates for 2021-2022 Academic Year
Student Parking Updates
Hello WWU Students!
Transportation Services is reaching out to provide a few parking updates and to let you know about upcoming changes to the parking system. Keep reading to learn how parking will be operating on campus going into the 2021-2022 academic year.
Waitlists Are Open
Waitlists for parking permits opened on 8/16/21 and permits will be awarded from the waitlists beginning on Tuesday, 9/7/21. After that parking permits will be awarded from the waitlists every Monday. More information about the waitlist process, including instructions for how to add yourself to a waitlist, can be found in the section below.
Lot C ParkMobile Zone Changing From 1212 to 1200
The ParkMobile Zone in the C lot will no longer be shared with the 12A lot. Starting on 9/16/21, the ParkMobile Zone used in the C lot will be changing from 1212 to 1200. This will only impact the zone that is entered into the app. The C lot will still have hourly and daily parking.
Lot C and Lot 6V Parking Rates Returning to Standard Rate Structure
Starting on 9/16/21, the parking rates in lots C and 6V will be returning to their standard rate structures, with lot C having hourly rates of $2.00 and daily rates of $12.00, and lot 6V having hourly rates of $2.00.
Lot 12A Will Now Be Lot 12G
Lot 12A near the Fairhaven complex will be changing classification to a “G lot” beginning on 9/16/21. This means that hourly and daily parking will no longer be available in this lot using the pay station or Parkmobile app. The 12G lot will require permits to park from 7:00am – 4:30pm, Monday – Friday.
Alternative Ways to Travel
Remember that if you are registered for 6 or more credits you have a WTA bus pass on your Western card (students with less than 6 credits can opt-in to the bus pass). Most students live within a walk or short bike ride of campus. Plan ahead and avoid parking on campus all together.
If you have any questions regarding any of the information included in this announcement, please contact Transportation Services at email@example.com.
Hello Western Students!
The availability of parking on campus is very limited and demand considerably outnumbers our available parking spaces. Check out the Transportation Services website to explore all the ways that you can travel without a car while you are at WWU. If you are not willing or able to be car free this upcoming school year and you want to park on campus, then you must add yourself to a parking permit waitlist.
Here's how to join a parking permit waitlist:
- On or after August 16th, add yourself to a waitlist by logging into the Parking Portal at www.wwu.edu/park.
- Click on the “Add/Edit Waitlist” button.
- You can add yourself to as many as three waitlists.
- Prioritize your selection with #1 being your top preference.
Additional instructions can be found in the Waitlist Video Tutorial.
Permits will be awarded from the waitlists based on space availability beginning September 7th. Waitlists are prioritized based on the number of credit hours a parker has on record at WWU, including all transfer credits. If you are awarded a permit, you will receive an email on September 6th with instructions on how to purchase your parking permit. If you do not receive a parking permit award on September 6th, you will remain on the waitlist. Permits will continue to be awarded weekly as space becomes available, and you will be notified if you are awarded a parking space.
Please continue reading below for an explanation of which lots are available for resident (living on-campus) and non-resident (living off-campus) students.
Parking map: https://www.wwu.edu/map/wwu_permit_parking.pdf
The C lot is the primary on-campus parking lot for off-campus students. The Lincoln Creek lot is an off-campus lot that is also available for commuting students and can be used in conjunction with the Whatcom Transportation Authority (WTA) bus system for convenient access to campus.
Information on using the WTA bus system to commute to campus can be found on the Transportation Services website at: https://transportation.wwu.edu/bus
Students living on-campus have multiple options for parking lot preference. Before adding yourself to a waitlist, we recommend you review the Campus Parking Map to determine which parking lots are closest to your residence hall. The resident lots are designated on the parking map with an “R” and are generally adjacent to the residence halls.
Resident overflow parking is available at the Lincoln Creek Lot. This is an off-campus parking lot a short bus ride away from WWU and is designated on the parking map as “LC”. Additional information about using the WTA bus system to commute to campus can be found on the Transportation Office's website at https://transportation.wwu.edu/bus.
The on-campus residence halls are listed below along with the recommended parking lots and priority order for each hall.
